Take your textbook, turn to and read Chapter 4 "The Structure of an Atom" (Pages 86-107)
How to Read a Textbook The first step that you should do when reading a textbook is to read the summary of what you are reading, so that you have an idea of what the whole chapter is all about. So where do you find the summary? If you turn to the end of the chapter, before the assessments, they should have a page summary for the chapter. In this case, the summary of Chapter 4 is found in page 111. The second step that you should do is read the questions in the chapter assessments and the section assessments. Why should you read the questions? It should give you an idea of what to look for/focus on as you are reading. The questions usually points out the key concepts that you should know. Chapter assessment is found on page 112-115. The third step is to skim through the pages looking at the paragraph headers, italicized, underlined and bolded words, diagrams and subnotes. Why? Because those are some the key information and important concepts that the authors want you to know. The fourth step is to actually read the section and take personal notes. Why? To get a better understanding of the concepts through the details that are being shared.
